Time not only rules human life but the life of planets and countries as well. Time is a mysterious phenomenon. It is very much involved with growth. A baby is born and it grows into a boy/girl and man/woman. Plants and animals grow as well. What is time? It is difficult to precisely define it, although it is definitely movement. Consider chronological time. What makes calendar time move is the rotation of planets. If the planets don't rotate, time does not exist.
J.Krishnanmoorthy, the celebrated mystic and philosopher of our century, introduced the concept of psychological time and also defined it as movement. Thoughts move and create time. If thoughts don't move there won't be any time. In his classic interview with the famous British Quantum Physicist David Bohm, Krishnamurthy discussed the ending of time at some length and how one can stop the thought process and experience timelessness.
The Tamil Siddhas had a greater understanding of time than Krishnamurthy and other material scientists who studied the phenomena of time. According to the Siddhas, there is what is known as the Kala Bhairava universe. A divine being called Kala Bhairava rules the universe. His function is to develop concepts of time for different galaxies. For instance, time moves very slowly on Planet Earth. Whereas on other planets that vibrate faster, the movement of time is much faster. It is Kala Bhairava who controls this. The Siddhas are not simply philosophers. They are pragmatists and they designed a number of methods to achieve benefits through an association with Kala Bhairava. In their astral travel the Siddhas made visits to the Kala Bhairava universe and gave a description of what the God (Kala Bhairava) looked like. He is dark in complexion, fierce looking, and has a dog as his vehicle. A person can pray to him to alter his/her bad time or pray to enhance his/her good time, according to personal experiences and astrological circumstances.
Kala Bhairava organizes every individual's personal time. For example, one person works for a minimum wage of Rs. 70 an hour. Someone else makes Rs. 700 an hour. Still someone else makes nothing in an hour. The person who makes nothing in an hour is absolutely insulting time. If time is unfavorable to you, and you realize that your time is not spent properly, then you can go and pray to Kala Bhairava. Present a request to Kala Bhairava to help you to better organize how you spend your time.
There is an optimal time for presenting requests to Kala Bhairava. This optimal time is the 8th moon.
Generally speaking, the 8th day of the waning moon within every month is an auspicious time to get in touch with Kala Bhairava. But this coming 8th moon on December 1st is an especially good one for him. Special rituals are done for Kala Bhairava on 8th waning moon days.

MAGHI PURNIMA-HINDU FASTING

The full moon day of Magha 25th/02/2013 is known as MAGHI PURNIMA. It is a great bathing day and is of same significance as that of Kartik Purnima, for the practice of piety and devotion. On this day fast is observed and charities are done. Early in the morning, after ablutions, libations are offered to dead ancestors and the poor are given clothes, food, money, etc. Then Brahmins are fed and given dan-dakshina according to one's means and capacity.

As already stated, Magha is one of the four most sacred months. Therefore, a bath in Ganga on this day is of high religious merit. For those to whom Ganga is not easily accessible, they can bathe in any other holy stream, river, tank or pond. Moreover, Gangajal is kept in almost all the Hindu homes which may be poured into ordinary well water, and then used for bathing.

Bathing in India is a ritual, a ceremony, a festival and a great purifying act. A bath on such auspicious day as Purnima, is all the more significant. On this day great bathing festivals are held at various places along the banks of the holy rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Sarayu, Narmada, Tapti, Kaveri, Krishna etc. People walk miles and miles to have a holy dip in the sea, or river or a lake on this day. A bath in the sea at Kanyakumari and Rameshwaram, is also considered to be highly rewarding. In the same way a dip at Pushkar Lake is also considered auspicious. At Kumbhakonam near Madras, there are great shrines of Sarangpani, Kumbeshwara and Nageshwara near which there is a large sacred tank, where devotees take a holy dip on this day. It is believed that Ganga flow into this tank on this day. Once every 12 years, Kumbha Mela is also held here.

Magha Mela is held at Prayag (Allahabad) on this day, and over a million devotees including pilgrims, ascetics, mendicants, nagas, priests, etc., take a holy dip here. People observe fast and charity on this occasion.

THE MAUNI AMVASYA.

MAUNI AMAVASYA, the last Amavasya before Mahashivarathri.

According to ancient religious scriptures, Mauni Amavasya is the day on which Manu rishi appears in this world millions of years ago. It is believed to be the day when the universe was created. On this day, the Sun and the Moon enters into the Capricorn sign. A vow of complete silence is observed on this day known as Maun Vrat. This vow is assumed to control our senses and engage them into the service of Supreme Lord Narayana. Practising austerities is believed to purify an individual’s existence and observing the vow of silence is apparently the simplest way to do so. The day holds extreme religious importance and taking bath on this day in the holy waters is deemed significant and auspicious.

It is a scientific fact that existence is a reverberation of energy. All vibrations in human experience translate into sound. Every form in the creation has a corresponding sound. This complex amalgamation of sounds is what we are experiencing as creation. The basis of all sound is “nishabd”. “Maun” is an attempt to transit from being a piece of creation to the source of creation. This attribute-less, dimension-less and boundless state of existence and experience is the aspiration of yoga: union. Nishabd would suggest nothingness. The word “nothing” has a negative connotation. You would probably understand it better if you put a hyphen between no and thing; it is a no-thing.

Sound is of the surface, silence is of the core. The core is a total absence of sound. Absence of sound means absence of reverberation, life, death, creation; absence of creation in one’s experience leads to an enormous presence of the source of creation. So, a space which is beyond creation, a dimension which is beyond life and death, is what is referred to as silence or nishabd. One cannot do this; one can only become this.

There is a difference between practicing silence and becoming silence. If you are practicing something, obviously you are not that. Consciously aspiring for silence, there is a possibility of becoming silence.
